African leopards are found in wide-ranging habitats; from desert and semi-desert regions of southern Africa, to arid regions of North Africa, to the savanna grasslands of East and southern Africa, to the slopes of Mount Kenya, to the rainforests of West and Central Africa.
Nevertheless, the African leopard is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. This means they face a high risk of extinction in the wild. Main threats include: habitat loss and fragmentation, human-wildlife conflict, illegal hunting and trade, decreasing prey-base and climate change.
